Demetri Martin's 'Wandering Mind' tour hits New Zealand this May and June

New York-based "deadpan comedy assassin" Demetri Martin returns to New Zealand with his world-acclaimed 'Wandering Mind' tour this May and June. He is set to play three amusing shows at Christchurch's Aurora Centre for the Performing Arts, Auckland Town Hall - Great Hall and Wellington's The Opera House.

After wrapping up his NZ performances, Demetri is set to wind up his Australian tour. He will be gracing five intimate venues at Adelaide Town Hall, the Gold Coast's Home of the Arts, Sydney's Enmore Theatre, Canberra Theatre Centre and Perth's Astor Theatre.

Demetri Martin is a standup comedian, artist, writer, and director. He began doing comedy in New York City where he worked as a staff writer for 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien', and a regular performer/contributor on 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'. Demetri soon got into his stride and won the Perrier Award at the 2003's Edinburgh International Fringe Festival for his one-man show 'If I', and the Barry Award at the 2006's Melbourne International Comedy festival for his show 'Dr. Earnest Parrot Presents Demetri Martin'.

"Martin roamed the stage with a dynamic energy, a barrage of rapid fire punchlines leaving the audience exhausted from laughing." – Australian Stage

"A multi-genre, wonderfully imaginative comic. Truly superb." – TimeOut London

"Cerebral and absurdist and surprising." – New York Times

"An exceptionally reliable comedian, with finely crafted material... an incredibly entertaining show." – The Guardian

After his career breakthrough, Demetri has released three standup comedy albums—'Invite Them Up', 'These Are Jokes' and 'Standup Comedian'—and has created and starred in his own Comedy Central TV series called 'Important Things With Demetri Martin'. Aside from his comedy and TV accolades, he is also known for his New York Times' best-selling books 'This Is a Book' and 'Point Your Face at This'.

On his latest work 'If It's Not Funny It's Art', Demetri features a collection of his original drawings that have appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, and The New York Times Magazine. He recently wrote and directed his first feature film 'Dean' which won the Founder's Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival for best narrative American feature film.

Using deadpan one-liners, inner monologue, drawings, peppering in music on guitar, keyboard, piano and harmonica to glockenspiel, toy bells, ukulele and tambourine—sometimes all at once—Demetri Martin is a truly unique voice.
