Nau mai, Welcome to the 2019 Banks Peninsula Walking Festival.

Come and explore beautiful Banks Peninsula this November, enjoying the spectacular landscapes that make it such a unique gem. Our guides will lead you on tracks, reserves and private land, sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience along the way. Hear their stories, meet new people and appreciate the ‘great outdoors’ as you go.

This year we have some great new events, along with some ever popular favourites. Try out the new multi-year challenge for hardy trampers – walking the whole of Kaitorete Spit in several stages, with QEII Trust representative Alice Shanks. Adventurous walkers may also enjoy a ‘Head of the Harbour’ hike in Governors Bay, or a gentler option exploring the new Childrens Bay Farm track on the Akaroa headland.

Try some of the great family friendly options; a nature trail at Gibraltar Rock, a ‘Kiwi Guardians’ challenge in Ōtepatotu Reserve, a night time adventure in Hinewai Reserve, the Antarctic Hut and Penguin Colony at Godley Head and a ‘Pirate’s Treasure Hunt’ on Quail Island.

Back by request is a ‘Plalk’, this time in Charteris Bay, as well as ‘Grunts and Dykes’ in Le Bons Bay and the chance to walk from Allandale up to Living Springs.

There is something to suit all fitness levels, from gentle meanders around the historic areas of Lyttelton and Governors Bay, to climbing the high volcanic peaks with their breathtaking panoramic views.

We have rangers, conservationists, historians, geologists, and many more passionate local guides who will lead, inform and inspire you along the way.

There is something for everyone, so book early as places are limited and walks fill up fast.
