Chamber Music New Zealand are proud to present L'Arpeggiata.

The 2017 tour begins with the NZ debut of L'Arpeggiata at the Auckland Arts Festival, before appearances in Napier, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

Taking as their inspiration Purcell’s ground basses, these eleven European virtuosi will fuse the improvisatory arts of the baroque with those of jazz.

As with jazz, an ostinato bass gives musicians the opportunity to improvise freely, and L’Arpeggiata require no second invitation.

Come along and witness first-hand Christina Pluhar leading this ensemble of outstanding musicians, through a wholesale rethinking of a timeless repertoire, providing the audience with a new perspective on ‘early music’.

"….an urbane sexiness, far removed from the rather chaste tradition of English Purcell performance.” - The Guardian, UK
