Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Sex & Food Tour

Psychedelic rock quartet Unknown Mortal Orchestra are all set to play their four-date Kiwi tour this September. The group will be performing in Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland in support of their latest album 'Sex & Food'. They will be accompanied by Australian heavy hitting duo Divide and Dissolve in all their New Zealand shows. After blasting up Kiwi venues, Unknown Mortal Orchestra will go straight to Australia for their intimate Brisbane concert.

Kiwi fans have been posing a lot of queries on what to expect from Unknown Mortal Orchestra's newest masterpiece. 'Sex & Food' is a delightfully shapeshifting album that filters real-deal, serious themes through a vibrant sonic lens that spans battered drum-machine funk, doomy and thrashing rock, and pink-hued psychedelic disco. Recorded in a variety of locales from Seoul, Hanoi, Reykjavik, Mexico City and Auckland, 'Sex & Food' is a practical music travelogue.

Over the last decade, frontman Ruban Nielson, has established himself as one of the most inventive sonic travellers currently working, and 'Sex & Food' is the most eclectic and expansive Unknown Mortal Orchestra's release to date. The album reaffirms the vitality of Ruban's voice in today's musical landscape, and when it comes to navigating the strange and often discouraging pathways our society's taken, it makes for a damn fine compass, too.

The adventurousness is all the more impressive considering that there's a bit of DNA from the past UMO discography in 'Sex & Food': the soft-focus psych of the project's 2011 debut LP, the lovely melancholia of 2013's ‘II’, and the weirded-out funk of 2015's virtuosic 'Multi-Love'.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra are on their way to invading Kiwi stages once again, so don't dare miss out!
