Demetri Martin – Wandering Mind Tour in Auckland
Following his 2011 NZ shows, award-winning comedy legend Demetri Martin is back onstage, bringing his critically-acclaimed 'Wandering Mind' tour to Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington this May and June. After playing what'll be his hilarious Kiwi performances, Demetri is then set to wrap up his Australian tour, hitting Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra and Perth.
In 2003, Demetri Martin—a comedian, artist, writer, and director—began doing standup comedy in New York City, where he worked as a staff writer for 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien'. After breaking onto the comedy scene, he then became a regular performer on the '90s classic comedy series 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'.
In 2009, Demetri has created and starred in his own Comedy Central TV series called 'Important Things With Demetri Martin' and has soon released three standup comedy albums and two four-hour long comedy specials. Last year, he has also officially launched his much-awaited Netflix show 'The Overthinker'. Apart from being the "deadpan comedy assassin" that he is, Demetri is also famed for winning the International Fringe Festival's Perrier Award for his one-man show 'If I', and Melbourne International Comedy's Barry Award for his show 'Dr. Earnest Parrot Presents Demetri Martin'.
"Martin roamed the stage with a dynamic energy, a barrage of rapid fire punchlines leaving the audience exhausted from laughing." – Australian Stage
"A multi-genre, wonderfully imaginative comic. Truly superb." – TimeOut London
"Cerebral and absurdist and surprising." – New York Times
"An exceptionally reliable comedian, with finely crafted material... an incredibly entertaining show." – The Guardian
His past works 'This Is a Book' and 'Point Your Face at This' are well-known New York Times' Bestsellers. In 2017, Demetri has published his latest book 'If It's Not Funny It's Art' which features a collection of his original drawings that have appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, and The New York Times Magazine. He recently wrote and directed his first feature film 'Dean' which won the Founder's Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival for best narrative American feature film.
Using deadpan one-liners, inner monologue, drawings, peppering in music on guitar, keyboard, piano and harmonica to glockenspiel, toy bells, ukulele and tambourine—sometimes all at once—Demetri Martin is a truly unique voice.
Witness the clever guy of deadpan comedy, Demetri Martin, entertain his much-awaiting NZ fans this May and June!
