A Documentary Festival Like No Other. 

Serving up a full month of documentaries for Kiwis to feast their eyes and minds on, the annual Doc Edge Festival returns for its 16th year with a jam-packed programme. The Oscar-qualifying film festival is in theatre in Auckland and Wellington, as well as Online Nationwide, 3 June – 11 July. 

Connecting film lovers with 83 of the very best documentaries from NZ and around the globe, the festival continues to offer a must-watch programme of world-class cinema.

If you’re in Auckland, SkyCity Theatre is the only place to see 18 of the festival features and 3 Doc Edge Originals, between Thursday 3 and Monday 7 June. The Civic is the only place to see 14 of the festival films between Thursday 10 - Sunday 13 June.

In Wellington, you can watch 32 features and three Doc Edge Originals at The Roxy between Thursday 17 and Sunday 27 June.

The fourth venue is online nationwide with 81 of the festival's short and feature films available between Friday 4 June and Sunday 11 July.

The festival includes stories of daring voyages, political thrillers, heart-warming personal tales, eccentric character studies and more, covering important topics like climate change, COVID-19, mortality and immortality. There are also drag queens, music superstars like Tina Turner and Lukas Graham, plus an impressive line-up of short films for those short on time.

Theatre audiences will also enjoy live Q&As with filmmakers, entertainment including virtual and augmented reality exhibitions and live performances. When planning your day out, make sure you allow time to enjoy everything the Festival Village has on offer.
