The beating heart of New Zealand theatre for more than 25 years, you’ll find an exciting, affordable, and unpredictable live theatre experience at BATS almost every night of the year.

Located on the fringe of the Courtenay Place entertainment precinct, the recently refurbished BATS Theatre now boasts three intimate performance spaces and a swish boutique bar.

Established in 1989 BATS is a uniquely Wellington institution focused on showcasing new New Zealand performance and famous for presenting three or more completely different performances in a single evening.

BATS is home to raw, bright, innovative emerging and established talent and is a well known hot spot to catch the next big thing. With an average ticket price of only $16, a night out at BATS won't break the bank.

The theatre is a vibrant hangout throughout the year and is a particularly popular destination during the NZ Fringe Festival, the NZ International Comedy Festival, The Young and Hungry Festival, or BATS’ annual ‘STAB season’ of revolutionary new theatre.
