A Manatū Taonga audio guide to fishing in the Bay of Islands. Check out the Ministry for Culture and Heritage's audio guide in the image carousel above.

In the 1920s wealthy American author Zane Grey visited – and wrote about – Urupukapuka Island in the Bay of Islands. A keen big-game fisherman, Grey caught a 400-pound broadbill swordfish, and wrote a best-selling book that encouraged others to follow in his footsteps. Today the area remains popular for big-game fishing.
