The Dilworth journey begins at the Junior Campus, with the largest intake in Year 7 (48 boys), and in Year 5 (24 boys). Occasionally, vacancies occur in other years, but these are rare, with significant competition for minimal places. The Junior Campus was opened in 1993 and accommodates 192 boys in Years 5 to 8, which was a return of sorts to the primary age of the first pupils who began the Dilworth story in 1906. While the Junior Campus is a separate campus from the Senior and Rural Campuses, all three operate as one school.

Staff at the Junior Campus endeavour to teach, encourage and care for the students in many different ways, and in a variety of different situations. The main aim of the Junior Campus is to educate and the classrooms are the centres of much of the activity of the School. Unlike students at almost all other primary schools, all the boys at Dilworth School are boarders, and this unique point of difference makes the Junior Campus much more than a place of classroom learning. Dilworth Junior Campus aims to offer a challenging, enjoyable and quality learning environment for “the vital years,” combining traditional values and modern technologies.

Along with academic education, life at the Junior Campus is about positive relationships and individual responsibility. The Junior Campus begins this journey by providing a nurturing, positive and student-friendly environment. It is a school with Christian values and one that endeavours to reflect those values in all areas.

The Junior Campus offers a very broad curriculum, in order to give every boy the opportunity of finding his niche. Like other schools, we follow the New Zealand Curriculum. Competition is balanced and high expectations and standards are set, within the bounds of clear rules and routines. We encourage and reward success born of positive attitude and effort. Success develops self-concepts of confidence, competence, contribution, character and connectedness.

The Junior Campus has a roll of 192 boys and class sizes are limited to a maximum of 24 pupils. The School operates a specialist teaching system, in which specialist teachers, passionate about their area of experise, teach particular subjects. This enables a wider group of teachers to be actively involved in the education of each boy and, more importantly, it provides for a broader view of the child’s performance and well-being. Such individual attention and focus, in turn, enable the School to cater to each boy's specific learning needs, whether for extension or learning support.

A scholarship to Dilworth is unique, a great start in life for your boy and something to be treasured. It is a real and enduring benefit for you and your family.
