16 Taranaki St, Wellington
The restaurant first opened for business in 1926 and is now Wellington's oldest eatery. The menu has remained unchanged since the Second World War. The Green Parrot has been in Greek hands since 1946. Two generations of the Sakoufakis family have maintained the restaurant as a Wellington landmark for the last 40 years.
For decades The Green Parrot has been a favourite haunt of politicians and celebrities, as well as other Wellingtonians and visitors from all walks of life, whose dining experience here has been described as "culinary archaeology". Even prime ministers have visited the restaurant... plotting the future course of the nation, over a T-bone steak.
