Manawa Karioi Ecological Restoration Project occupies about 12 hectares of land owned by Tapu Te Ranga Marae.
It was established in 1990 and it is run by a group of passionate volunteers. The aim is to return the area as much as possible to its state before it was cleared for farming.
Other aims are to help people reconnect with nature, assist with the recovery of rare plants, promote educational activities and provide sources of traditional food, fibre and medicine.
A track network has been established, that connects to the City to Sea walkway, Rhine Street and Tawatawa Reserve.
The reserve is open public access. To find out more about the project and the tracks visit our website.
