50 Princess Street, Martinborough
At Muirlea Rise they grow, produce and bottle all on-site.
Handcrafted wines using traditional winemaking practices and minimal intervention winemaking from low cropping, non-irrigated 33-year-old vines.
Still family owned and operated by son Shawn - “I have a single goal and that is to produce wines favoured by Pop’s approach, that they be reflective of their vintage and receive minimal intervention in the making”.
Our boutique vineyard comprises 4.5 acres of closely planted vines, was established in 1987, and is placed amongst the oldest of Martinborough’s wine producers.
They still use cork - which is damn near odd in the New Zealand wines industry now. They believe cellared wine develops best under cork.
The Portuguese have expended a huge amount of effort to overcoming “Corking” and for the most part have succeeded.
