Nau mai haere mai ki Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa. Welcome to the National Library of New Zealand.

The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa is home to the Alexander Turnbull Library, Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision, and HOME Café.

We hold dynamic, engaging events throughout the year that talk about our past to create a better future – he whakapapa kōrero, he whenua kura.

We also provide a free public space for everyone to enjoy . You can research or study in one of our reading rooms, immerse yourself in our exhibitions, or find the perfect gift or souvenir to take home from our store Te Āmiki.

We are home to He Tohu, a free exhibition of three of Aotearoa New Zealand’s founding documents – 1835 He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni - Declaration of Independence of the United Tribes of New Zealand, 1840 Te Tiriti o Waitangi - Treaty of Waitangi, and the 1893 Te Petihana Whakamana Pōti Wahine - Women’s Suffrage Petition. Experience a self-guided audio tour of He Tohu in English, Fijian , French, German, Hindi, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Samoan, Te Reo Māori, and Tongan, or a New Zealand Sign Language tour.

Come visit us in the heart of the heritage precinct with Parliament and Archives New Zealand just a short walk away.
