Salmon World

Salmon World is a great new attraction situated in Rakaia, just 40 minutes drive from Christchurch. Our 4D Movie Ride and Freshwater Aquarium is designed to appeal to all ages and nationalities and is especially great for the kids. Salmon World contains a number of unique and fascinating attractions, all based on the scenic Rakaia River which is considered by many as the best salmon fishing river in New Zealand. Salmon World will let you experience this unusual New Zealand ecology in a fun and entertaining way.

Our two attractions at Salmon World are focused around the Rakaia River with a 4D movie ride and freshwater aquarium. The 4D movie ride lets you experience the best adventure activities our region has to offer such as riding in a jet boat and helicopter up the scenic Rakaia River. The second attraction is a freshwater aquarium that is focused around the lifecycle of the Chinook salmon. The aquarium is also home to many other species such as brown and rainbow trout, eels and turtles. A great educational experience for the kids!

A trip to Salmon World can be incorporated with a visit to our excellent Salmon Tales Café and the Rakaia Country Arts store; all situated in the same ‘salmon’ shaped building. The building is also home to the Southern Gateway Visitors Centre which offers information on the area, internet access and booking information.
