The northwestern end of the Town Belt is an excellent spot for looking out over the city, harbour and the Orongorongo Range.

Location: The northwestern end of the Wellington Town Belt.

Entrance and exit points: The main entrance is off Orangi Kaupapa Road in Northland, and other key entrances are from Huntingdon Street (Wilton), Weld Street and Wadestown Road (Wadestown) and Grant Road and Saint Mary Street (Thorndon).

Brief description: The reserve is a popular walking and biking area with a lookout and picnic area off Orangi Kaupapa Road.

The lookout and picnic area was redeveloped in 2010 and is now an excellent place to take visitors to Wellington to look out over the city, the harbour and the Orongorongo Range.

Interpretation panels at the lookout explain the history of early Māori and colonial people on the hill, along with the story of the changing landscape and vegetation.

Parking: Car parks at Orangi Kaupapa Road, Northland, and Weld Street in Wadestown.

Accessibility: Well-formed tracks. Four-wheel-drive tracks along the ridge can be reached from the Weld Street or Orangi Kaupapa Road car parks. These are suitable for mountain buggies.

Dogs: Dogs must be kept on a leash other than at the dog exercise areas along the ridge and off Grant Road.

Mountain biking: You can ride most of the main connecting trails over Te Ahumairangi - the Northern Walkway, Huntingdon Street to Ridgeline track, the Ridgeline track, West-East Conector track and Grant Road track. However everything else is out of bounds.
