The Vivian was born out of the need to establish a home for a group of local professional artists within Matakana who exhibit throughout New Zealand yet seldom in their own community.
The Vivian is a purpose built art gallery, built to sympathise with its rural environment. The building is located within three acres of pasture, native bush and two ponds.
It is our intention to showcase contemporary art outside the urban environment while continuing to keep the rural experience at its core. The Vivian offers the opportunity for both indoor and outdoor works across a variety of mediums from painting, object, photography, video, sculpture and installation work.
The Vivian is an assemblage of friends, art, artists, building, relationships and the celebration of rural aesthetics.
