Engaging with Wellington - A Free Public Lecture

Join Holly Bennett of HSB Government Relations and local Labour MP, Jamie Strange for an informative session as they share their knowledge about political engagement within the New Zealand Government.

Holly and Jamie will discuss how best to engage in Wellington in today’s political landscape. This lecture will be of interest to any students studying Law, Politics, Communications and Management, as well as wider members of the public.

This 60-minute public lecture will be held in L Block (L.G.01 lecture room) at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, starting at 1.00pm. Parking is available on campus via Gate One, Knighton Road, Hamilton.

Background Information on the Presenters:
Holly Suzanne Bennett (Te Arawa, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Pikiao) is a government relations and communications consultant. She founded her consulting company at the end of 2017, primarily focusing on improving government engagement and access to lobbying services, while also empowering political participation, especially among young people.

Holly is a graduate from the University of Auckland (LLB). She was admitted to the bar in 2013 and holds a current practising certificate. She is a graduate of Te Whare Hukahuka’s Ka Eke Poutama Rangatahi Governance Course, a committee member of the Tipene Reopening Committee and an Advisory Board Member for Fit Futures. She spends time between Tāmaki Makaurau, Kirikiriroa and Rotorua.

Jamie Strange is a New Zealand politician and a member of parliament in the House of Representatives for the Labour Party. Globally, he sees climate change as the most pressing issue. He believes our clean, green image, combined with Kiwi ingenuity, provides tremendous potential for New Zealand to be a world leader in areas like renewable energy and fossil fuel reduction.

Jamie, a Hamilton Boys’ High School Old Boy, cares deeply about education and students achieving their full potential. His specific experience centres around the role of the arts in education as a way to cultivate vital life skills such as confidence, creativity, and cooperation.
