On the 6th of February 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed by Rangatira Māori and representatives of the Crown.

In 2019, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei in conjunction with Auckland Council will commemorate the occasion with a free, fun and informative day out at Okahu Bay, Orākei.

This free community and family-friendly event will feature fantastic NZ musicians live on the main stage and complemented by a range of onsite delicious food stalls, arts and crafts stalls and interactive games activities and exhibitions for kids and the whole whānau.

We pride ourselves on enforcing a strict smoke, drug, alcohol-free and zero waste focus. Para kore and security marshalls will be on site to support this whanau-friendly day.

With our event conveniently placed right by Okahu Beach, we encourage you to bring your togs (bathing gears). As well as being able to enjoy the cooling waters of the Waitematā, Watercare will also be on site to source some fun water play activities for the kids. The Watercare minitanker will also be a source of water bottle fill ups on the day. No need to buy water, just bring your water bottles.

We are proud to launch our first ever Hauora/Health Village at this years Waitangi Day event. Free services include Breast Screening, diabetes, BP, lung disease, physio, blood tests, dental checks, Smear tests, Spec Savers, Auahi Kore, Yoga, Zumba, Guest speakers and heaps of freebies. No better time than Waitangi Day for a free health check-up e te whānau.

The car park this year is managed by ngā whānau o te Puna Reo Okahukura. This is a fundraising initiative for our tamariki and therefore a small cash fee is being asked of each car wanting to park. The fee is $5.00 and after 1:30pm, a gold coin donation

Bring a picnic blanket along and set yourself up in front of the stage, and enjoy a quintessential Aotearoa summer’s day.

The day will begin with a pōwhiri (māori welcoming ceremony) at 10am.
