Atlas - a collective of mapping exhibitions taking us on a journey through many perspectives on how we navigate our world.

In the modern western world, we often consider a map as a two dimensional means of navigating our way from one point to another. This exhibition explores different aspects and interpretations of mapping, moving us through landscapes, cultures, time and media.

Artworks include multi-media representations from indigenous artists, art students and the highly detailed and immersive drawings of Geoff Harris, to the latest technology of GIS mapping. Visitors also have the opportunity to participate through ‘Heartstrings’ by placing a ‘heartstring’ on a map from your point now to a special link in the world - or by sitting in the Research Corner and exploring the background to the exhibition.

Join us on this amazing journey! The exhibition will be open from 20th June to 16th August and includes a series of 7 exhibitions:

- Drawing on Experience: Moving through landscape large scale drawings by artist Geoff Harris
- Indigenous Mapping: Collecting Truths an international portfolio of prints
- Heartstrings a collaborative project for Atlas by Heath Bell
- Un-charter(ed) by students of our Bachelor of Applied Arts Year 2 (Graphics)
- Once upon a place - the art of telling a story through maps by students of our Environmental Management Diploma
- Maps/Journeys by students of our Bachelor of Applied Arts Printmaking
- The Research Corner a space constructed by Barcode.

Navigate your way to the Geoff Wilson Gallery, NorthTec, Gate 3 Raumanga Valley Road, Whangarei for the opening of ATLAS on Wednesday 26 June 4-6pm.
