Come and celebrate the first Sunday of Conservation Week by helping weed around native plantings at the Kaniwhaniwha Campground on Mt Pirongia, or weeding around native plantings along the Nikau Walkway. The beautiful Nikau walkway follows the Kaniwhaniwha stream, and has been planted by volunteers over the past 16 years, but weeds have encroached at certain parts and need us to prevent them from overtaking the plantings.
We will meet at the Kaniwhaniwha Reserve carpark at 9am Sunday 15th September. You can either bike or walk, depending on your mode of transport. A pair of gloves to weed around the plants would be useful. Wear long pants and sleeves as the bugs are bad at this time of the year, and secateurs would also be useful. Bring a water bottle and snacks and wear appropriate clothing for the conditions. Stay for a bbq afterwards as you have earned the satisfaction of a job well done with like-minded people.
