Bach Musica NZ opens their 2019 season with one of the Baroque period's most celebrated choral masterpieces: Bach’s B Minor Mass (movements Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus and Agnus Dei).
Over the centuries there has been a wide range of theories as to how this monumental work by one of the greatest composers ever came to life. However, everyone agrees on one point: Bach’s B-Minor Mass is “[…] arguably the greatest choral work ever written. It is certainly the hardest music any singer can ever sing.”, according to Bach Musica NZ’s Music Director and conductor Rita Paczian.
At this concert Bach Musica NZ will be showcasing the very essence of the musical pillars it has been founded on. It is a great opportunity to experience the ensemble’s perfect creative symbiosis: Rita Paczian, internationally sought-after conductor and renowned for her expertise on Baroque music, leading one of New Zealand’s top ensembles performing Bach authentically.
The ensemble is thrilled to welcome soprano Elizabeth Mandeno and tenor Andrew Grenon, who have just returned from their international studies in Cardiff, world-class Swedish alto Catrin Johnsson, and award-winning bass James Harrison.
Bach Musica’s motto is Music for the soul. The performance of this mysterious work of grandeur is setting the tone for an exciting new season and is a night not to be missed!
