Captain Cook first introduced the potato to South Island Māori in 1769.
Māori adopted the potato, as it resembled kūmara (sweet potato) and could be grown in a similar fashion.
More importantly, potatoes tolerated cooler conditions than kūmara. They were reliable and high-yielding, and quickly became a key crop.
Spaces are limited to 10 people per session. Children must be 8-15 years of age. Tickets are paid for on the day at OTT. $5 materials cost
