An evening not to be missed! The contest provides a brilliant opportunity to hear Southland’s top young classical musicians performing a wide range of works as they compete to reach the regional finals.
Presented annually by Chamber Music New Zealand, it is the only nationwide chamber music competition for young secondary school musicians and composers in the country. 2019 marks the 54th year of the contest!
The purpose of the Contest is to encourage young musicians regardless of standard or experience, to perform together and strive towards excellence. It also aims to provide an opportunity for musical activities within schools to have a link with the wider community at both a local and national level.
Seven groups including string trios, brass ensembles, percussion groups, and woodwind quartets will be performing at the district contest for 2019. This wide range of groups creates an interesting and exciting evening of chamber music.
