Check out what's happening in Hawera as we celebrate Free Comic Book Day with the rest of the world. As the name implies we are giving away free comics until they are all gone - we have 600 in total. As the day is growing each year we have spilled out into the Town Square.

So much is going on. Manga artist, Brittany Piper from New Plymouth is demonstrating digital Manga portraits throughout the event. South Taranaki Mayor, Ross Dunlop is first up to have his portrait drawn - Manga style. We are giving away 2 free portraits throughout the day - just rock up to the Manga stand and put your names in the box.

Enrol or turn up to the illustration workshops with comic artist James Davidson (Moa comics). There are two one hour sessions - one specifically for children and one for adults who would like to improve their comic book creation skills. Contact Hawera LibraryPlus for details.

Comic cartoonist, John Carr returns to Taranaki to entertain - 3 performances on the day.
Join the Galaxy Rock Hunt - there are prizes for each rock returned to the library.

Fun craft activities for children throughout.

Once again Campbell in the Caffeinate Cart, on the corner of the Town Square, has come on board and will host gaming demonstrations & challenges throughout the day. If you venture to the library activities, where most things are happening, you will receive a voucher for a free coffee or hot chocolate from Caffeinate also.

The Comicon costume parade is growing each year. How about dressing up as your favourite comic book character. There are prizes in 4 categories: Family; children under 12; over 12 age group and a Business category for shop staff.

(This will be judged by the public) This year to do it justice the parade will be held in the Town Square with an MC. If wet Paper Plus has agreed to clear a runway in the shop to accommodate the parade.

Take part in the 5 minute dragon challenge - where 4 players try to defeat a monster against the clock - prizes for the best times. Fun for all ages 7+

Enjoy Face Painting and sausage sizzles while your there.

Bizlink Hawera is running a "Design your Hawera Superhero' competition in April - get your entry form in town. Winners drawn in the Town Square during the Comic Book Day celebrations.
