This event is part of Conservation Week 2019 - www.conservationweek.org.nz.

The Wakatipu Basin was once blanketed in a mixture of native shrubland and forest. Together with the Wakatipu Reforestation Trust, the Department of Conservation is committed to the vision of bringing the Kōwhai and other native species back to the Wakatipu through Project Gold.

This year's Conservation Week theme ‘Nature Needs Us’ is all about what each and every one of us can do to be conservationists in our day to day lives to give Nature the help it needs. A planting day is a great way of getting out to do your bit in nature, have great conversation with like minded people and enjoy nature for the morning.

Make your way to the Slope Hill Road Carpark at Lake Hayes from 9am. The planting site is a 10 minute stroll around the lake to the right.

We have 250 trees to plant and many hands make light work, so bring your friends and family along. This activity is suitable for any age and fitness level. Please bring suitable footwear for gardening, a shovel or spade if you've got one and some gloves. We will supply a yummy morning tea!
