Dances of Africa

Shake, shimmy and groove to the soulful rhythms of Africa, led by Jenny Bloomfield and accompanied with live drumming by Simon Elwell and African Beats NZ.

You will be guided through a warm up, learn some cool moves, and put the choreography to music for an interactive high energy experience, followed by a relaxing stretch, so you leave feeling great! Bring water, wear comfortable clothing you can move and stretch in, and come ready to have fun!

Jenny is a dance artist and educator, dedicated to sharing joy and creating community through music and movement. She has been studying West African dance for over 20 years, and often travels overseas to study with master teachers. Her classes are high energy, fun and inclusive, no experience required!

She is the founder, director and teacher of the Moringa Dancers, an African style muliticultural dance troupe in Wellington, who have come together from across the globe through a shared love of expressive movement and collaboration with live percussion. She performs with Moringa Dancers, Kadodo and Kubatana regularly around NZ.

She shares and performs traditional West African dances and rhythms and creative afro-inspired choreographies, all with a deep respect for the ancient and living communities these rhythms originate from. Jenny holds a Bana Kuma Dance Teacher Certificate, an African Drumming Facilitator Certificate, and a 350hr Dru Yoga Teaching Certificate, and has just returned from her second trip to Ghana on a drum and dance study tour led by Koffie Fugah.
