Delaney Davidson brings his band to Hawke’s Bay for the first time, he is excited to play Haumoana Hall and excited about bringing the band.

"I have always come to Hawkes Bay solo, so this will be a first! Heard all about this atmospheric Hall aswell so we are really looking forward to this night."

It’s been a busy 12 months for Delaney Davidson, he’s toured Europe, showcased in Brighton UK, had an art exhibition in Berne, Switzerland, created a show especially for The Harcourts’s Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival, released one new album under his own name, one with noise Guru Bruce Russell,
and another with Barry Saunders of the Waratahs.

He has toured New Zealand three times and produced four other albums; for Harry Lyons, Tami Neilson & the collaboration with Saunders, and a celebration of the music of iconic Christchurch identity Al Park. He even managed to squeeze in working with Neil Finn on his Out of Silence LP.

For this multi award winning artist that really just represents an average years’ activities. He is never still, and always excited by collaborations that are in the pipeline or projects that he’s dreaming up for the future. His work has been recognized at the highest levels. He was the recipient of the Arts Laureate Award in 2015, has won the APRA Best Country Music Award three times.

To define Delaney as a country artist is much too narrow however and his work spans everything from Berlin Cabaret to Delta Blues, from ancient folk songs to raw rock’n’roll. He was even given an award for the saddest song ever written at a Berlin Music Festival.

"Ha ha... that was quite a night, people were just crying. It got a real response! We will be concentrating however on the upbeat this Thursday. SJD and Chris have been backing up Don McGlashan forever so its a real honor to have them on board."

This Thursday night sees him at the Haumoana Hall supported by a full band of notable musicians. On bass will be Sean James Donnelly (SJD & the Pajama Club), on drums and percussion, Chris O’Connor (Phoenix Foundation) and on fiddle and backing vocals Anita Clark (Devilish Mary & The Holy Rollers, Motte). This band toured together last year to celebrate the release of Shining day, Delaney’s most recent solo album, which also features song writing collaborations with Sean James Donnelly, Nathaniel Rateliff & Neil Finn.

After much encouragement he has decided to take that band on the road again for three select shows.

The Haumoana Hall presents a unique opportunity to experience Delaney in the kind of funky, offbeat environment that his music suits best. Expect the unexpected! Come along to dance and groove in a rhythmic melodic atmospheric trance as he transforms his songs with the help of his exciting musicians. They are happy to be working together again after a six month hiatus, so there will be excitement onstage as well as in the audience!

A Wine & Beer bar will be operating, and Paella A Go Go will be debuting a new recipe to join their range of paellas.

Although tickets are selling well, there are some seats reserved for on the night!
