“Are you a parent of a child with autism or do you work with a child with autism? Do you want to learn skills to support their learning and engagement? The Victoria University of Wellington autism research team is hosting an education workshop teaching some of the strategies from the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM).
The ESDM is an extremely promising intervention which has been used in over 35 countries worldwide. It is a play-based behavioural therapy that targets a wide range of developmental skills for children with, or at risk for, autism under the age of 5. This kind of early intervention is vital, as the symptoms of autism can reduce the number of social (remove) learning opportunities children experience. ESDM therapy, therefore, aims to accelerate learning, reduce the symptoms of autism, and teach key developmental skills to stop these children from falling behind their peers.
Our team leader, Dr. Hannah Waddington (certified ESDM therapist, educational psychologist, and lecturer) will be running this introductory ESDM workshop focusing on hands-on strategies for building positive interactions with your child. The specific focus of this workshop will be an overview of the foundational ESDM techniques as well as strategies to engage in fun "people games" with your child.
Tickets for this event are $25, places are limited to 35 people
