Families of Wonderland

Families of Wonderland is the first event of Divergence 2019.

Parenting as a Mad or Neurodivergent can often carry a sense of “not good enough” and a pressure to be more of a “typical” parent. At Families of Wonderland we will be celebrating the unique wisdom and richness that a family lead by a mad or neurodivergent parent contains.

“No man is an island” so when experiencing hard times, mental distress or madness, we develop unique wisdom to move through these times while carrying for those we are connected too. Families of Wonderland offers a chance to hear and share some of the learning you have gained.

Children and young people are at the heart of the rationale for Divergence: It is why we are doing this. Yet they too are no buffeted by the expectation that they are “not good enough” or should be more typical. It is hard enough growing up, let alone in a world that is not understanding or does not value the unique gifts you bring to it. Families of Wonderland will be a place where children and young people can be themselves and have that celebrated!

If this sounds like you then bring a picnic and come and partake in the activities. The Christchurch Fairies and Gandalf will be here to entertain us, as well as some fun activities celebrating each person’s uniqueness will be happening.

In addition to this there will be a range of speakers from different lived experience angles talking about the wisdom they have learned along the way, as either a parent, a child, or young person. Also there will be an opportunity to get some fun family photos with our photographers. So come on down and lets celebrate the unique colour that you and your family bring to the landscape of our community.
