Fantastic Fakes
Creating a forgery is illegal – copying isn’t! Artist and walking Wikipedia of artist techniques and methods, Ian Logan, will keep you on the right side of the law and show some easy-to-apply shortcuts to recreating your own version of a masterpiece.

Ever wondered how that favourite artist created your favourite image? Creating your own copy is one of the best ways to find out. It’s a time-honoured method of artistic training that will develop many essential skills and increase your appreciation when looking at art as well. Your version can be as close to the original as you want to be or you may even want to do a completely different subject - just in the style of the artist you have chosen.

The course is open to all abilities and you can use a medium of your choice. The emphasis is on doing, rather than theory and history, so you can develop practical artistic skills and use easy techniques to make your own ‘fabulous fake’.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Understand and apply methods to reproduce colour and line more accurately
- Identify which media particular artists are using
- Recognise and apply some signature stylistic techniques of your chosen artist and artwork
- Finish at least one version of a chosen favourite artwork
- Identify and choose a style of copying from the free to the more exact style of copying
- Develop more appreciation of how colour, line, brushwork and composition were used in the artwork

Initial materials included but bring along other drawing or painting materials you enjoy using, plus two good photos/photocopies (A4 or larger) of the art work you want to copy so you can draw and work over one of them.
