A talk on the enduring impact of European settlement on Māori following the arrival of James Cook. This is an opportunity to share, debate and reflect – to enable a more balanced telling of our stories, so that we speak openly and respectfully about our history.

Dr Hirini Kaa (Nga-ti Porou, Nga-ti Kahungunu, Rongowhakaata) lectures in history and theology at the School of Humanities at The University of Auckland. He presented and co-wrote the documentary series The Prophets (2015) for Maori television, has worked for everyone from his iwi to the Anglican Church, and comments on a range of Maori social issues.
