Fish Out Of Water – Call for Artists

The Fish Out of Water Art Trail is an annual summer art event initiated by Rotorua Lakes Council 15 years ago as a creative way for local artists and community to celebrate Rotorua’s magnificent lakes and fisheries.

The trail features large fish (fibreglass moulded) transformed each year by local artists and then released into the inner city streets, where they are hosted by local businesses over the festive summer season, giving opportunity for both locals and visitors to walk the trail and vote for their favourite fish.

Call for Artists is open until Thursday 7 November. Entries are now open for artists to submit their bid idea to dress one of fish for its stay on land this summer.

Artists are encouraged to be creative and innovative in their ideas, and bid reflecting their own unique interpretation of the trail’s focus being to celebrate Rotorua’s lakes and fisheries. Artists can choose to work on a fish individually or collectively. More details of entry requirements and design parameters are listed within the entry form.

All bids must be sent in via an entry form available from Rotorua Lakes Council, Rotorua Library, The Arts Village or downloaded from www.creativerotorua.org.nz

With limited amount of fish available, artists are encouraged to get their bid in as soon as possible.

Important dates:
Monday 14 October: Entries open
Thursday 7 November: Entries close
Saturday 9 November: Artists notified
Wednesday 13 November, 5.45pm-6.15pm: Project briefing and meet your fish @ The Arts Village
Thursday 14 November until Tuesday 10 December: Transform you fish
Wednesday 11 December, 5.45pm – 6.30pm: Finished fish returned @ The Arts Village for meet and greet with all fish, hosts and artists
Tuesday 17 December: Beginning of fish in residence for Fish out of Water Art Trail.
