Flamenco in Thames is an intimate style concert with flamenco guitar and cajon, complete with bar & snacks that will be available from 7pm.

Feel the fiery rhythms of Spanish flamenco... a folk music with its roots buried deeply in ancient Spanish culture... Its vibrancy contains a heady mix of Arab, Christian, and Jewish influences.

Veteran television reporter Ian Sinclair, explains how his lifelong passion for flamenco has taken his career from stage to screen and back. Many of his compositions are inspired by stories he has filmed across the globe.

As a young man Ian went to Spain to study under maestros Miguel Garcia and Jose Luis Postigo prior to his journalistic career. As a TVNZ reporter his work took him around the world many times to cover wars in Bougainville, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, and natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina. In 2001 he was appointed Europe Correspondent for TVNZ.

When Ian returned to Spain to study under flamenco guitar maestro Juan del Gastor in 2011, it rekindled his yearning for Spanish culture and he is now performing regularly as a flamenco guitarist.

Ian and award-winning latin jazz percussionist Steve Cournane have now joined forces to form their duo Isla Flamenca (Flamenco Island) Steve is an award-winning jazz percussionist who has spent seven years studying and playing latin percussion in Peru.

His instrument, the cajon is so-called because it looks like a box and was invented in Peru, but has crossed the Atlantic to become a central part of flamenco in Spain.
