Robert McLean has edited and introduced the recently published From Cairo to Cassino, a richly evocative memoir by Dan Davin about Paddy Costello, linguist, soldier, diplomat and academic, and their time with the New Zealand Division in North Africa and Italy during World War 2. McLean will be joined Keith Murdoch, All Black Keeping up with the Jones' 13 by Cold Hub Press publisher Roger Hickin and the author and diplomat Gerald Hensley to discuss both Davin and the enduringly fascinating and mercurial Costello, and what we can learn from Davin’s memoir about war, friendship, memory, literature, politics, and the making and breaking of reputations.

This is an event involved in the Featherston Booktown Festival on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th May celebrating everything to do with books, writers and reading. The three-day programme includes writing workshops; poetry readings; talks by leading authors and illustrators; and a book fair including stalls with rare and second-hand books. There are also events specifically for children.

Take a look at our website for the full programme of events.
