Great Northern Day

Rally the troops & get to Ellerslie Racecourse for contests of epic proportions – the 135th running of the Network Visuals Great Northern Steeplechase and Boutique Body Corporates Great Northern Hurdle races.

Two of some of the fiercest sporting competitions in New Zealand, competitors race over distance, tackling all number of hurdles or larger brush jumps and the famous Ellerslie Hill in a fierce battle to the winning post and their place in sporting history.

There’s no such thing as body armour, roll cages or airbags where these guys come from; just nerves of steel, athleticism & a whole of lot of trust as some of the country’s bravest horses & jockeys race to sort out the pretenders from the contenders.

And aside from the heart-stopping, nail-biting, adrenaline-filled theatre, what’s in it for you as a spectator?
