When the Reverend Thomas Burns sailed up the harbour in 1848 to establish a settlement in this land, there was a vision for the community.
That vision led to the establishment of churches, schools, welfare institutions, and a university. Some harsh judgments have been made about Burns, but are they fair? This presentation by Professor Murray Rae will explore the basis for Burns’ uncompromising determination, and his conviction.
