New York-based New Zealand indie-rock trailblazer Hamish Kilgour, of Dunedin icons The Clean, will perform in Paekakariki on Wednesday 6 March as part of a rare whirlwind tour of Aotearoa. His band includes NZ-based legends Stuart Page and Daniel Manetto.

Christchurch’s Ben Woods Group and Paekakariki’s The Travesties round up the indie-heavy bill.

Cirque d’Finc - Finklestein: The Musical Tour will feature songs from Kilgour’s superb latest solo album Finklestein, a sixteen track collection of psych-inflected guitar-pop tunes originally conceived as a children's book for the artist's son.

While Kilgour never got around to writing the story itself, the album evolved and took on a life of its own over a year at Marlborough Farms, the studio of his friend Gary Olson, a Brooklyn engineer/producer and lead singer of The Ladybug Transistor.

Ben Woods (Fran, Wurld Series, Salad Boys) and his group of all-stars (Doprah, Adam Hattaway and The Haunters, Zero Cool) are on an extensive nationwide tour in between appearances at Canterbury's Nostalgia Festival, Wellington's Newtown Festival, and Hamilton's Future City Festival.

Woods gained praise throughout the blogosphere for his tuneful fuzz-pop debut ‘Lozenge’ and its accompanying video, directed by Martin Sagadin, who also directed videos for Aldous Harding, Marlon Williams and Tiny Ruins.

On the back of their village tour of Paekakariki, The Travesties continue to explore their lo-fi pre-punk sound. With new songs about polystyrene and bogan existentialism, they push well beyond the outer limits of rock lyricism. You would think that when planets collide it would be a travesty, but the outer solar system has pulled them into mutual orbit with Ben Woods and Hamish Kilgour.
