After working in various diverse media Michelle Walton (Backhouse) decided to revisit the ideas developed in her last year studying at Ilam Art School, creating sculptural forms from black building paper.

"The title In One Piece describes the process of making these sculptural wall reliefs which are literally folded from one piece of paper. In this series of work I have used the sculptural potential of tessellating techniques to create volume, form and strength. I was also playing with tension between light and dark tones, flat and textured surfaces, stillness and movement. The title of this exhibition also has metaphorical connotations, describing the emotional revisiting of the years prior to family responsibilities and a reflection that I'm still 'in one piece."
