"After yet another row about money and feeling trapped, my Mother decided she could do a better job than Dad. She wanted to work, but with three children, that was impossible. I was around 7 years old at the time and I clearly remember trailing after her while she muttered, ‘I should have been a man’. I felt differently and told myself, ‘I'm Glad I'm a Girl – I'm Glad I'm a Girl.’ And I was. So I’ve called this show ‘I’m glad I’m a girl’ and it’s a survey exhibition of my intaglio prints (etchings on zinc) from 1977 to 2003.
The prints tell of my life, family, friends, feminism, the female gaze and explores the notion that the personal is political. It’s about my view of the world: girls to the rescue! I’ve always had a studio with a printing press and though I paint, I also decorate pots, make books and sew. This exhibition will present more than 90 works, all etchings on paper. Some are framed and all tell stories. I am including an installation of decorated bowls and other work related to the themes of the prints."
Opening Event: Sunday 18 August 3–4:30pm
