Jill is an international educational consultant in literacy and author of over 800 children's books, with a wide variety of teaching experiences, spanning over thirty years.

She is highly regarded internationally and has travelled to the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, South Africa and throughout New Zealand working in classrooms with teachers, and with administrators, reading specialists and consultants in school districts, implementing practical literacy programmes and sharing her vast and varied knowledge.

Jill has been the sole trainer at summer institutes at George Fox University, Portland, Oregon and the University of Sioux Falls, South Dakota in the United States for several years. In 2005 she was made an adjunct professor at Sioux Falls University.

She has written many teachers’ books on the implementation, organization and management of reading and writing programmes, assessment and evaluation. One of these titles, ‘Linking the Language Strands’, has sold over 80,000 copies in English and French.

She is the creator and author of 'Sails Literacy' and 'Key Links' series, very successful reading programmes encompassing all aspects of comprehensive literacy. Over 55 million copies of these books have been sold internationally. Her ‘Connectors’ and ‘Into Connectors’ series has a comprehension and oral language focus and is based on the reciprocal teaching process.

Bud-e Reading is her latest creation and provides children just starting out on the reading journey with a wonderfully rich programme encompassing both books and digital to excite and ignite their love of reading.

She believes in 'lighting the literacy fire' in children and is passionate about creating material that is current, cutting edge, humorous and motivating. Her work in education and literacy within New Zealand and around the world was recognised in the 2010 New Zealand Honour’s List, when she was made a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order.
