Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland. This walking tour is part of the Auckland Heritage Festival and the tour starts and finishes in central Auckland.

Join this fascinating walking tour through the streets of the CBD and follow the threads of the first arrivals, the Polynesians, followed by the British settlers and the Asian arrivals at later times.

Auckland has been the home to migrant people for perhaps a thousand years. The first arrivals, Polynesians, called it a "Land desired by many,' with good reason, and they competed vigorously for the food resource that it provided. British settlers since the 19th century saw Auckland as an ideal place to create a new life. Our Pacific Island family in the latter part of the 20th century, and our Asian neighbours from 19th-21st centuries have both migrated here for the opportunities the city now provides.

Our walk will take us through the inner city and follow the threads of this story.

To ensure that we have sufficient guides available for this tour, please register and pay before attending.
