Children's Day at Ngā Manu with Kākāriki Nature Play

Nga Manu Nature Reserve, in partnership with Kākāriki Nature Play is launching its first ever Children's Day Celebration. Come along and enjoy free entry for children to Ngā Manu Nature Reserve with a range of free outdoor activities to inspire creativity, get tactile, and have some fun in the bush, while learning about the different species of wildlife that call Ngā Manu home.

With Daisy Design Face Painting from 10am to 12 noon, storytelling sessions at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, Eel feeding at 2pm and a guided walk at 2.15, alongside drop in activities, the day will have something for the whole family! Bring a picnic and come and enjoy the beauty of Ngā Manu.

Note: Kid's go free at Ngā Manu on Children's Day- offer not available with any other offer. Children are 0-15 years and must be accompanied by a paying adult.

With children spending more time inside than ever before, the need to get them outside and immersed in nature is becoming a mission for a growing number of educators around NZ and the world. Outside play, especially in natural settings with few props, develops resilience, problem solving skills, creativity, confidence and social skills among many other benefits.

It also deepens a child’s connection to the earth and the natural world, often instilling in them a lifelong love of our environment. Anna Burns, Director of Kākāriki Nature Play has been involved in working with children, arts and the environment in various capacities for over 20 years. As a storyteller and performer, Anna will also incorporate the creative arts into the bush sessions, including storytelling, singing, movement and visual art.
