The Loire Valley can evoke a wide array of images: To romantic travelers, visions of splaying Châteaus perched along the river are conjured; divided companies may argue whether the wines are amongst the most prestigious or the most insipid, while others regard the region as the harbinger of natural wine.
The region is one of immense history and modern contradictions; all of which are evidenced in the wines of the current day. These are wines that can reflect generations of tutelage to protect traditions or, in some areas, an unmitigated spirit of revolution.
On Monday, the 4th of March, we will delve into the Loire and its’ sub-regions through the lens of some of the people who have pioneered change and those following in their footsteps. The wines being tasted will cover an array of styles, personalities and philosophies including those from the school of Clos Rougeard in Saumur, the dueling appellations of Vouvray and Montlouis-Sur-Loire, and, of course, the charge towards natural winemaking.
