Most people are familiar with the horrors of the trench warfare on the Western Front which was mainly a War of attrition in which 600,000 men were sacrificed for a few hundred meters of territory in which they fought each other to a stalemate.
However, in the Middle East mainly Sanai/Palestine a great Allied Army, with Mounted ANZAC troops at its leading front, had the mobility and component leadership to out-manoeuvre and roll back three great armies of the Ottoman Turkish Empire who had controlled the Middle East for the previous 400 years.
This led to the liberation of Jerusalem and the Turks being driven back to what is now the border of modern Turkey. At that point they signed an armistice on 31st October 1918.
Germany, now without its Eastern Ally to protect its rear, also negotiated an Armistice a few weeks later bringing to an end the horrors of WW1.
