Seminar Overview:
While much has been made of managing risk under the new health and safety legislation, it is not always clear how boards, owners and senior management should take control of the situation when an incident occurs and WorkSafe becomes involved.

Presenter:
Jane Birdsall, Health & Safety and Statutory Risk Consultant, Vero Liability Insurance Ltd

Jane has over 12 years experience as a health, safety and environmental regulator. She has led and overseen hundreds of investigations as both an investigations manager and health and safety inspector. In addition, she has worked as a Principal Practice Adviser and Specialist Inspector of Major Hazard Facilities.

Her qualifications include an MA (Hons) in Politics along with a NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (Distinction). Jane was awarded the top candidate prize for the International Diploma in 2016/17. In July 2018, Jane was employed as a health, safety and statutory risk consultant by Vero Liability Insurance Ltd - the first appointment of its type in the New Zealand insurance Industry.

Learning Outcomes:
- Understand standard investigation notification requirements
- Know the internal and external process to follow in the event of an accident and subsequent investigation
- Implement strategies to support best outcomes for all
- Appreciate personal liability and what practical steps to take to mitigate this
