Our Matariki exhibition for 2019 is aligned to the Year of Indigenous language, and is titled Arero Hei Whakawhitinga kōrero – 'a conversation'.

Within this kaupapa artists are encouraged to discover, participate and research opportunities to converse in the indigenous language of Aotearoa Maori.

We have asked that artists consider how language bonds and creates connections, instils pride, commands respect and how language is imperative to maintaining cultural traditions.

Te Reo Maori, our indigenous language links to our life force / mauri allowing us to experience the Te Ao Marama (the new world) as continuity from Te Kore, (the darkness and the place of unknown potential.)

Co-Curated by: Jeanine Clarkin and Elizabeth Allen
Supported by the Waiheke Local Board.
