Nau mai ki te wā whakanui i a Matariki.

Experience an indigenous-themed cultural market to celebrate the Māori new year and to revive our connection to the maramataka Māori, the ancestral lunar calendar. Proudly supported by the Papakura Local Board for the 6th consecutive year.

Ngati Tamaoho artists will demonstrate whakairo (carving), alongside a photographic exhibition and raranga whatu. Whiri Aroha (Korowai weavers group) who have supported this kaupapa each and every year will be here again. Also sharing their expertise will be artists in tā moko, raranga, taonga puoro, and uku (pottery).

On stage, performances by local kappa haka groups and a collaborative performance by 9 students from the secondary schools within Papakura. Pounamu, taniko and other art forms will also be for sale. Poi making workshops and a demonstration of wahakura are also on site.

Come in from the cold into the warmth of the toi maori filled foyer. Free car parking and internal access to the foyer. This event is in partnership with Ngati Tamaoho and the Papakura Library.

Project Manager Kelly King.
