To the Mountains - Laurence Fearnley in conversation with Nikki Macdonald.
Come on a journey into the mountains with Laurence Fearnley, alpine explorer and writer, in discussion with journalist Nikki Macdonald.
Laurence co-edited To the Mountains, a wonderful anthology of alpine writing by New Zealander mountaineers past and present, and wrote Going Up Is Easy with Lydia Bradey, the first women to ascend Everest without oxygen.
Laurence lives in Dunedin, and her novels shine a spotlight on South Island landscapes and characters. She is the author of Edwin and Matilda (2007), The Hut Builder (winner of the 2010 New Zealand Post fiction award), The Quiet Spectacular (2016), and Scented, due out in October.
Her writing is known for evoking a sense of the South Island’s southern landscapes and the people who live there, and her non-fiction pays homage to New Zealand’s mountains and their explorers.
Laurence has been awarded the Artists to Antarctica fellowship and the Robert Burns fellowship.
