The Long and the Short of it - Owen Marshall in conversation with Nikki Macdonald.

Owen Marshall is one of our country’s great short story writers. His latest novels Pearly Gates (2019) and Love As A Stranger (shortlisted for the 2017 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards) remind us he is a dab hand at writing stories in the longer format too.

Owen discusses the art of the short story, his novels, and the people and places that have shaped his writing career.

Owen experienced boyhood in Blenheim, but has spent most of his life further south. He was awarded the CNZM and ONZM for services to literature and the Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement.

Owen has an honorary Litt D from the University of Canterbury where he is an adjunct professor. In 1996, he was the Katherine Mansfield Memorial Fellow in Menton, France.
