Exploration of street art in the inner city and New Brighton will inspire 'words' as wonderful as the images on the walls! You will learn writing techniques such as using metaphor, point of view and voice to shape your ideas about an art-piece into a poem or short story.

Workshops are free and open to all; bookings are essential and children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Families are welcome.

To book please call 03 941 7923. Visit workshop page:

Some notes about the workshops:
a) After meeting in the Library, the first hour is a visit to murals nearby
b) Make sure you dress warmly
c) Bring a camera, pen & paper or a laptop for the writing exercises
d) Bring snacks if you want to. Otherwise the Library has 2 coffee places, but they can get busy.

This project is presented by The Commuting Book with the collaboration of The School for Young Writers, Watch This Space and Christchurch City Libraries.

This is part of the 2019 Paint n' Pen Creative Writing Programme where you can submit your work inspired by Christchurch's street art and get published.
